Rogue mix of old and new…Daily Examiner Article

There is a short article on the Daily Examiner website about the new album from 27/12/11.

IT has been sitting in the vaults for a year but the fourth Rogue Traders album is worth the wait.

Released with a complementary best-of CD, it is a mix of the old and the new.

There are the anthemic hits of Voodoo Child and In Love Again, which are pure pop perfection, and on the flipside are the new, dreamy, pop-meets-disco tracks voiced by new lead singer Mindi Jackson.

auspOp Interview

An interview has been posted on auspOp which is a must read for any fan, it gives a  pinhole view into what has been happening in Rogue Traders camp. But don’t just take our word for it, check out the snippets below and then read the whole article!

“We did leave Sony,” he admits. “It was not through want of everyone trying their absolute hardest and it wasn’t an easy thing at the time, I can tell you. It was quite upsetting. And also it was very confusing for our fans, because obviously they were waiting for a record that didn’t materialize, even though it was material in itself. So it was really, really hard.

“Really what turned it around was when we realized that we were approaching our ten year anniversary, which was an event for which we always intended doing a greatest hits,” he says.

“It seemed like a brilliant way to tie the two projects together. Out of loyalty, we went to Sony first and they really liked the idea. I have to give them a lot of credit for showing continued faith in us and here we are with ‘The Sound Of Drums’.”

The highlight single for the new release is ‘America’; a track written at the time that the Bush years came to an end and the Obama era began. We’re surprised to discover that James wasn’t really expecting the question about the new track.

“Mindi is a unique talent and she is her own person and we’ve always said from the beginning that we weren’t looking for the next Nat, we were looking for the first Mindi.”

“We’ve been living with this album for a long time, so we just need to get it out of system and play it out of our system and then probably by the time the tour is finished, we’ll start thinking about the next record,” James says.

“So we certainly intend to keep making music.”

We for one are very glad that they intend to keep on making music! Read the full article at auspOp.

Rogue Traders: Bridging The Gap…LUNA Magazine Article

Another article has popped up over at the LUNA Magazine website. It is an interview with James talking about the greatest hits, new album Night Of The Living Drums, Blondie’s role as inspiration and the national tour in April.

“We’d actually reached our ten year anniversary in the band. So I know the record company were always keen to do a greatest hits with Rogue’s, and we had this other album that hadn’t yet been released. So it just made sense to tie it all together into one really strong package. And it was a great way – obviously we have our new singer Mindi – and the two records allow us to show where we’ve been, with the first bit, and the second is where we’re going. It’s a nice way to kind of bridge the gap between the eras of the band, I suppose.”

Regardless, Ash said the Rogue Traders sound is still as strong as it’s ever been.

Bridging the gap between old and new, Ash was inspired by one of the great rock bands of the nineties when writing material for the newer half of the album, Night of the Living Drums.

“We’ve been waiting to put this record out for a long time and we’ve got a couple of months before we go on tour, which will be happening in April-time…  We will be going everywhere in Australia – well I’m not sure if we’ll make it to Kalgoorlie,” Ash laughed, “But we’ll definitely be in South Australia and most major regional centres we’ll be hitting sometime during April.”
